F & N Out-Do Yourself Award Launched to Recognise Outstanding Achievements

Microsoft Malaysia Introduces Its TECH.ED South East Asia 2008 To Benefit ICT Industry

Microsoft (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd, a subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation will organise its premier and largest annual conference of technology education, namely TECH.ED South East Asia 2008, featuring 14 technical tracks and 100 breakout sessions from August 11-14, 2008 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Ahmad Zakii Anwar Introduces “DISCLOSED” At Galeri Petronas, Suria KLCC

Ahmad Zakii Anwar, a very illustrious Malaysian homegrown artist, has introduced his latest remarkable works of art themed “DISCLOSURE” at Galeri Petronas, Suria Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre recently.

The event was graced by Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Perak Darul Ridzuan, Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbudin Shah, who officially opened the exhibition and unveiled the most extensive exhibition publication of Zakii’s works todate, published by GALERI PETRONAS.

Curated by GALERI PETRONAS’ Senior Curator, Anurendra Jegadeva, DISCLOSURE will be the first comprehensive study of Zaki’s career as an artist over the last two decades. Influence by the development of figurative realism within painting in contemporary Malaysian art practice, Ahmad Zakii Anwar or Zakii, has explored a huge range of ideas and style through his works, which includes works from the early Still-Life Series to his monumental Charcoals on paper.

Zakii’s artworks has been consistently outstanding due to his continuation in using Figure when addressing social, religious and political issues while exploring ideas about self and identity through their very different narratives and styles.

Speaking at the event, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Perak Darul Ridzuan Raja Nazrin Shah, voiced admiration on Zakii’s work by addressing the audience, ” Zakii possesses a unique ability to translate the everyday and the ordinary into extra-ordinary works of art. His creations are pleasure to eye and is careful, meticulous and precise in the art forms he creates. Zakii is not only an artist but an advocate, where his works are powerful and direct, evoking viewer emotions at first glance”.

Also present at the launch of DISCLOSURE, was Y.M Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim, Director of Galeri Petronas echoed Raja Muda of Perak’s sentiment, by saying, ” the Zakii’s works that are exhibited at Galeri Petronas speak volumes about the artist’s immense skill and his total mastery over his craft”.

The 300-page exhibition publication, also bearing the title “DISCLOSURE”, is considered as the most extensive one ever produced on Ahmad Zakii Anwar, possessing over 100 high resolution images of his most significant works accomplished throughout his career as an artist, is available at GALERI Shop, Suria KLCC and retails at RM190 per copy.

The Ahmad Zakii Anwar’s exhibition will be held at Galeri Petronas until 24th August 2008. However, several public programmes have also been organised like, curatorial walkthroughs for public, led by Anurendra Jegadeva will be on 22nd and 29th July. On 9 August, the artist will hold a MasterClass workshop on drawing with charcoal for art students, follows by an afternoon of Ghazal music from Johor, the home state of Zakii, as part of GALERI’s World Music Series Programme.

Red Bull Rookies Revving Up For The Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race

Red Bull Energy Drink, a functional drink that improves concentration and revitalises the body and mind, has unveiled its all female race team the “Red Bull Rookies” for the upcoming Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) at Borneo Baruk Club, Kuala Lumpur recently.

The Red Bull Rookies comprise four dynamic young ladies, namely Leona Chin, Norbaizura Ruslan, Norlina Johor and Puteri Ayu Jasmin, will be racing their most highly anticipated 12-hour endurance race at Sepang F1 International Circuit this coming August 2008.

NEC Unveils TWINPOS3500G1-The New Compact Touch Screen POS Terminal

NEC Corporation of Malaysia, a total solutions provider for a comprehensive range of NEC’s IT, networking and telecommunications, as well as display technologies, has introduced the new Compact Touch Screen POS Terminal, namely TWINPOS3500G1 at Nikko Hotel, Kuala Lumpur recently.

Claimed as the space saving design (with 292 x 203mm footprint), as it only occupies 45% of conventional touch screen POS Terminals, this new generation POS Terminal(with 2.5GB flash storage runs with zero spindle architecture) is the most advanced one touch-panel screen equipped with flash memory that delivers lesser hardware breakdowns and enhanced energy-saving. Its metal-frame configuration delivers a robust structure to withstand external pressure such as temperature, water spill and dust. JVC Takes SD Card Memory Camcorder Market By Storm

JVC Sales and Service Malaysia , a wholly owned subsidiary of Victor Company of Japan, Limited, and one of the world’s leading developers and manufacturers of sophisticated audio, video and related software products, has unveiled JVC Everio S Series GZ-MS100, the first SD Card Memory Camcorder that features a one-touch uploading to YouTube.

The latest generation of Everio’s S Series (weighing just 270 grammes with battery included) is the first of its kind to record to an SD Card instead of a built-in hard drive and its one-touch upload to YouTube on Internet works in two ways, that is, in camera mode, the UPLOADING & Trigger button enables recordings to 10 minutes in length to suit YouTube file size limit, which eliminates the needs to manually set time recordings or return to editing and shorten footage. Once UPLOAD button is triggered, recordings will be transfered to PC and YouTube via USB cable and with a few clicks, the video is on Internet.

With the Cyberlink technology, the GZ-MS100 model ables to burn video recordings easily onto DVD using computer’s optical disc drive or to create DVDs without using a computer, JVC offers the CU-VD3 Everio SHARE STATION by allowing DVD burner to accommodates Everio’s USB Host function that allows scene playback order to rearranged within the functionality of the camera before data recordings transfered.

The new GZ-MS100 is also equipped with Laser Touch Operation to enable users to scroll bar and buttons by just using fingers to glide up and down the bar menu with the guidance of blue light, thus, the 2.7-inch LCD screen which has Auto Backlight Control (to automatically adjust brightness for comfortable viewing) is prevented from dirt, smudged, scratch and fingerprints. By just flipping out the LCD, which takes only a second, the user ables to shoot any moving object with ease and by closing the LCD ables to off the power as well as to avoid draining battery.

The GZ-MS100 is enhanced with KONICA MINOLTA LENS that provides a 35x optical zoom with excellent picture quality. JVC’s Gigabrid Engine also contributes to quality by incorporating six digital noise reduction systems to improve the S/N ratio by about 30% (3dB) over previous models and intergrating the MPEG-2 encoder to help reduce block noise.

Sony Expands its BRAVIA Full HD V400 and S400 Series with Realism

This year, SONY (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd, which is celebrating its 20th birthday with its two other sister companies in Malaysia, has convincingly unveiled its latest full range of BRAVIA Full HD V400 and S400 Series at Highstreet of One Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya.

Kenny Rogers ROASTERS’ Running Chicken Returns To Bring A Smile To Children

The Roasters Chicken Run 08 for Charity is back again with a bang and this charitable cause has been running for fourth consecutive year, following three previous successful runs, Kenny Rogers ROASTERS have raised more than RM100,000 to benefit Tabung Kebajikan Pesakit HUKM, Pediatric Unit HUKM (Oncology) and Unit Tutur, a centre that assists hearing impaired children. The ROASTERS Chicken Run is aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle with the message “Its fun to be healthy”. The much anticipated ROASTERS Chicken Run involves completing a distance of a about 4.8km within the vicinity of Desa Water Park. This year, contestants need to balance an egg on a cone during the race and those who finished the race without dropping the egg stands the chance to win prizes.

The run was divided into 5 major categories – men (age 19 and above), women (age 19 and above) and children from various charity homes which are divided into adolescents (age 13 to 18), children (age10-12) and juniors (age7-9).

Winners of the ROASTERS Chicken Run walked away with medals, holiday trips to various Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, Desa WaterPark entrance tickets and Kenny Rogers ROASTERS meal vouchers. Utilizing Bayer’s No Coding technology, the new CONTOUR TS is a precise blood glucose meter that is easy to use yet meets advanced technical standards to ensure accurate results. Bayer’s CONTOUR TS blood glucose meter which eliminates miscoding errors, confusion on calibration, cost of test strips, and enzyme interference (maltose, galactose and oxygen) requires only a tiny blood sample size to read correct code on inserted test strip. CONTOUR TS (has an 8 seconds test time) also features a longer test strip shelf life and an easily accessible orange test-strip port for test strip.

The latest Bayer’s BREEZE 2 offers the same advance, easy-to-use No Coding technology which automatically codes meters for precision, reliability, fast and simplified testing. Its unique 10-test disc offers multiple testing platform and convenience to patients as they can be carry along without taking additional strips. For BREEZE 2, glucose results can be obtained in 5 seconds and it is enhanced with 420 Test Memory that supports GLUCOFACTS Diabetes Management Software. To add in its list of accolades, BREEZE 2 was the first to receive the “Ease of Use” commendation from the U.S Arthritis Foundation and Arthritis Society of Canada.
