Astro to Provide Malaysian Youth A Platform For Positive Change

Astro, Malaysia’s leading cross-media group, is banking on the country’s youth population to generate fresh and innovative ideas to win a berth at this year’s United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development (UN GAID) Global Youth Forum to be held from 21-24 October in Armenia.
The objective of the competition is to nurture Malaysian youth to demonstrate their creative and social skills in the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) arena.

Speaking at the event which was held at WIP Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur recently, Channel Manager of Astro RIA, Mr. Khairul Mizan said ” we are dedicated to investing in our youth, one of our country’s most valuable resources, and empowering them in taking a leadership role in our society”. Also present at the launch was, Mr. Johan Farid Khairuddin, UN GAID Global Youth Forum Representative.

As a proud sponsor of the Malaysian Chapter of UN GAID Global Youth Forum for second year, Astro is organizing a nationwide competition for Malaysian youths 18-25 years (individual or two members per team) to select one or incorporate all of the eight United Nations Millenium Development Goals (UN MDGs) in a written document, a 3-5 minute video, or a prototype, as an active representation demonstrating their strategies, plans and solutions in addressing and achieving these goals.
The eight UN millenium Development Goals are to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, to achieve universal primary education, to promote gender equality and empower women, to reduce child mortality, to improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria as well as other diseases, to ensure environmental sustainability, and lastly to develop a global partnership for development.
Submission deadline for all entries is 11.59 pm on 25 September 2008. Top three selected entries will be awarded an all-expenses paid trip to participated and showcase their work at the 2008 UN GAID Global Youth Forum in Armenia. Malaysian winners of the competition will be announced on 15 October 2008.

Carlsberg EURO 2008 Man Of The Match Final Showdown at Genting Highlands

European Union Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry Launches “Carlsberg EURO Futsal 2008″ in Kuala Lumpur
European Union Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI), with the endorsement of Embassy of Switzerland and Austrian Embassy, has organised a media launch of “Carlsberg EURO Futsal 2008″ at Mezzo Sports Bar, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel today.
Representing EUMCCI, Mr. Marco Winter said the EUMCCI has actively promoted better business relationships between the EU and Malaysia, by taking parts in promoting football to have a right mixture of business and pleasure (sports).
Mr. Winter has pointed out, that EURO 2008 is one of the most important and renowned trophies in the world international arena, which is being played every four years, and this year Austria and Switzerland as the host for EURO 2008 which is two weeks away, will definitely capture the attention of million of viewers in Malaysia.
